Over the last decade, venture investors seem to have lost critical company-building know-how due in large part to excessive amounts of capital flowing into increasingly larger funds focused on later, more expansive stage companies. This industry trend toward relatively lower risk, lower reward ventures attracted a talent base conversant with financial engineering. Meanwhile, authentic seed and early stage venture capital as an investment strategy, along with the specialized know-how supporting this thesis, had become increasingly undervalued despite its clear long-term significance to the health and innovative edge of the entrepreneurial ecosystem as well as the sectors it serves.
That was never the case with Exo and with the investment community experiencing renewed interest in the thesis, we’re uniquely capable to serve in this capacity. Rather than take short cuts with later stage ventures, our view has always been to own the origination process wherein the intrinsic value – the unique DNA – of the venture can be best harnessed.
